“Maman, shall we go to the swimming pool pleaaaaaaaase? It’s going to be 27°C this afternoon!”
I hardly dare to write about the marvellous outdoor swimming pool in Geulle, located less than 10 minutes by bike from our home.
I am torn between the wish to tell everyone about this pure gem and the selfish impulse to keep it as our special secret hideout.
It seems uncredible that the swimming pool in Geulle, which has existed for 40 years already, is still so little known in the area.
It is a membership-based swimming pool and most visitors come from the vicinity. My children love going there because they are always sure to meet up with friends and schoolmates.
The grounds consist of three separate pools and several wide open green grass fields scattered with beautiful tall trees.
As usual, my children didn’t waste any time and quickly dived into the pool. The water was clean and fresh and they played and swam all afternoon with their friends.
My youngest daughter is still taking weekly swimming lessons but can now swim in the middle pool without armbands.
The deep pool looked very tempting. Last year, I went to swim there several times on my own early in the morning. On a few occasions, I had the entire pool to myself and felt like a queen.
When my children were smaller, I used to sit on the side of the shallow pool and watch them play with their toys in the water.
Birthday parties are very easy to organise at the swimming pool and are always a big success!
A season’s membership card costs EUR 23,50 per person (free under 4 years old and EUR 20 for people over 60) and the only requirement for each family unit is to sit at the entrance gate for three hours once during the opening season.
The swimming pool is run by a team of volunteers who do an impressive job at maintaining the terrain and the facilities in excellent condition.
Every time I go there, I realise what an immense privilege it is to live so close to such a splendid location.
Today I spent another perfect afternoon at the pool.
While my husband was reading in the shade of a tree and our children were playing in the playgrounds and swimming in the various pools with their friends, I spread out a towel on the grass, lied down in the warm sun and fell peacefully asleep..
